    All AMSA executive board members must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills and are expected to have professional conduct at all times. All positions require public interaction and sometimes correspondence with the administration and other officials. A sincere passion for community development and service, along with ability to co-operate and work as a team is strongly required. These positions also demand a high level of commitment and dedication, making time management skills essential. Each member of the executive board has a vote in the all affairs of the organization.


    The president of AMSA presides over all business and administrative affairs and all executive board meetings. He/She will represent AMSA in all external affairs and will work with the vice president on all association initiatives and is an ex-officio member of all committees. The president will support educational and community initiatives as those in line with AMSA's objectives and aims. He/She will be the liaison between the administration, government personnel, faculty and the organization and may often have to give testimony on AMSA's behalf and will work with the media. Working closely with the advisor, the president will allocate time to have regular meetings with him to discuss AMSA projects and to give reports on events that are held. He/She represents the organization at all times and should be in good report with all students, members, as well as with faculty and administration. The president will be required to have a presence on campus, both physically and verbally, and should be in good conduct at all time.

    The president should have strong written and oral communication skills, organizational and administrative skills and a complete knowledge of AMSA locally as well as some background information on the National organization, its structure, goals and current initiatives. He/She will also be in communication with the national office, constantly updating local activities and obtaining information about projects and events at the national level. Other useful qualities are networking abilities, some knowledge of health policy and medical education policy locally.

    Specific semester responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    1) Heading up the recruitment process to promote AMSAs objectives and project initiatives, goals, and achievements in order to obtain new membership.

  • 2) Bi-weekly meetings to discuss current projects and plans

    3) Work with the treasurer to put together a budget for the semester and SGA executive board.

    4) Oversea all email correspondences and project announcements and ensure continued quality of presentation.

    5) Overseer/Chief editor of local AMSA publications, the local chapter website and any other documentation that represents the organization

    6) Write letters of recognition and appreciation when appropriate.

    7) Write letters of recommendation for senior students and executive board members

    8) Oversee and presence at other projects that include but are not limited to:
      

  • Suture clinics
  •   
  • Setting up screening clinics in local towns
  •   
  • The AMSA Health Fair
  •   
  • Women's Health initiatives

    10) The president may request an executive board member to represent the organization externally when needed


    In addition to the duties of all project directors, the vice president will have specific duties to oversea all internal affairs and will be directly involved with all initiatives, working closely with the project coordinators. The VP will sit in on committee meetings and provide summaries of project plans. He/She assists the president as needed and will preside over the meetings and executive responsibilities in his/her absence. The vice president will also assume other duties as directed by the president; this may include, but is not limited to, chairing ad hoc (new, circumstantial and specially formed) committees and special work groups, acting externally as the official AMSA representative, or sitting on other committees of the association.

    Primary responsibility is to assist in achieving the goal and vision of the President. Often times acting as a liaison between the President and the rest of the board, the VP works closely with each and every executive member and has knowledge of all events under the AMSA umbrella at any given time. the VP must continually monitor and communicate with AMSA National to ensure that our members are kept up-to-date with important events back in the US. It is essential that the VP gets along with everyone, shares in each board member's passion for their respective project, and works closely with the President.

    Specific semester responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    1) Getting speakers for the AMSA "life as" seminars and putting such events together.

    2) Calling and setting up all local chapter executive board meetings

  • 3) Sit in on all committee and project meetings and active involvement with planning and execution of such projects

    4) Planning executive board events

    5) Active involvement in planning projects that include but are not limited to:

  • Suture clinics

  • "Life As" seminars

  • 6) Work closely with the president to help in any aspect as needed.

    7) Assume the duties of president in his/her absence.

    The chief responsibility of the treasure, under guidance from the executive board and the president, is to administer the budget. The duties of the treasurer include, but are not limited to, working closely with the president, and project directors and the national office to solve any financial issues that arise, reporting on the budget at each executive board meeting and putting together budget requisitions from the SGA. The treasurer is solely responsible for all budgetary decisions that are made when the president is absent. Furthermore, the treasurer ensures that money is spent wisely.

    As member of the executive board, the treasurer is responsible for staying abreast of all issues, whether financial or non-financial in nature, being a responsible voting member of the board, and serving on one of the project committees.

    The treasurer will help with organization projects when needed and will be in attendance at all executive board meetings and at least three local AMSA events.

    Specific duties include:

    1) Responsible for all financial affairs of the organization

    2) Put together a budget report at the request of the president

    3) When requested by the executive board, to give a full financial report at executive board meetings

    4) Work with IT director and secretary to organize new membership application and fees to be sent to the national office

    5) Keep current roster of paid members

    6) Allocation of funds for various projects and ensure that all money is spent with good reason, ensuring sufficient funds for future projects and local chapter expenses

    7) Attend all executive board meetings and at least three AMSA events

    8) When called upon, to represent the organization externally.


    The secretary will document any and all AMSA events as a written report. He/she is responsible to keeping detailed accounts of the executive board meetings and will provide this information in the form of meeting minutes which will be sent to executive board members after each meeting. He/She will execute all notification flyers and campus-wide initiative announcements. The secretary will assist any executive board member upon request and will help the vice president put together "Life As" seminars and e-board meetings. The secretary should have strong written and verbal skills.

    Specific duties include:

    1) Attendance and documentation of all executive board meetings

    2) Maintenance of the AMSA notice board

    3) Assist the IT director in photo documentation of AMSA events

    4) Assist vice president in putting together meetings and ad hoc events

    5) Attendance at three AMSA events through out the semester

    6) Production and posting of announcements and flyers on campus, and educational pamphlets for the public.

    7) Checking emails regularly to help the president stay informed with correspondences

    8) Assist in compiling any mass correspondences to members.

    9) Assist the treasurer and IT director in organizing new member applications to be sent to the national office.

    10) When called upon, represent the organization externally.


    The publicist is an executive position more recently referred to as Health Fair Advertiser. However, because of the overwhelmingly large success of Project AIDS Dominica, AMSA Clinics, the Women's Health Task Force, and other AMSA endeavors, the responsibilities of the Health Fair Advertiser have extended to include all AMSA events. Publicity is an outreach position which all programs will utelize to keep AMSA members, Ross Students, and the people of Dominica abreast of AMSA events and services. Advertising plays a large roll in this position, and the publicist will be responsible for high turn-outs and strong community interest.

    Specific duties include:

    1) Strong communication with AMSA officers, directors, and program coordinators.

    2) A fluent understanding of all AMSA project aims and goals.

    3) High rapport with the AMSA board, AMSA members, and the community-at-large.

    4) The advertising of all AMSA related events and projects.

    5) High levels of turn-out and a strong community interst in AMSA related events and projects.

    6) Great creative technique and the development of attractive yet informative articles.

    7) Ability to manipulate various forms of media such as flyers, distibution lists, and web articles.

    8) Work closely with the IT director to bring the full scope of AMSA endeavors to the website.

    9) Able to procure and maintain a positive image of AMSA within the Ross and Dominican Communities.

    10) Able to assist the executive board for a higher level of enrollment during membership initiatives.

    11) When called upon, represent the organization externally.


    AMSA Project Director positions

    AIDS Project Dominica is a relatively new venture for AMSA at Ross developed with the intention of providing HIV/AIDS education and preliminary HIV screening to the people of Dominica. The position of Co-director was created to help meet the needs of expanding project goals. As of next semester there will be two co-directors and a committee of four persons working on the project. The position of co-director is demanding and will require the talents of a self motivated and highly enthusiastic individual. The primary responsibilities involve oversight of the project and achieving its semester objectives (the aims are listed below).

    Project Aims and director responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    1) Editing a Proposal for Rapid HIV testing (Correspondence with members of the Ministry of Health, Ross administrative faculty, and local health professionals)

    2) Possible work to help restoring sources of HIV ARV (antiretrovirals)

    3) Information dispersal to the Dominican public

    4) Epidemiological study

    5) Culturally sensitive program for AIDS awareness for Dominican youths

    6) Seminar for Ross students on HIV/ AIDS

    7) STD pamphlet

    8) Co-AIDS directors will report all activities to the president and will work closely with the vice president in the execution of all events.

    9) Attendance at all executive board meetings is expected and attendance at three AMSA events is required.

    10) When called upon, to represent the organization externally


    Project coordinators of the AMSA health fair held each semester are responsible for all logistic planning and execution of the event. They must have strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.

    Responsibilities include:

    1) Logistical planning of the AMSA health fair such as putting together shifts for volunteers, stations for different screenings, and procuring space and scheduling for the event in Portsmouth

    2) Communicate with the Mayor's office for approval and assistance in distribution and posting of flyers around town.

    3) Putting together the health fair t-shirt.

    4) Organization of training sessions for the event.

    5) Monitor inventory of supplies for the screening

  • Purchasing and restocking of any supplies needed
  • 6) Work with vice president to check all logistics in planning the event.

    7) Actively oversee and direct volunteers at the event.

    8) Attendance at all executive board meetings and at least three AMSA events

    9) When called upon, to represent the organization externally


    AMSA's Women's Health Initiative began as a project to increase awareness of health issues faced by Dominican women and to promote preventive care and healthy living. Through educating Dominican women about how to take better care of themselves by being pro-active in their wellbeing, AMSA WHI hopes to alleviate some of the illnesses faced by the female populous that can be avoided through early detection and prevention. The director of women's health initiative will head up all projects aimed at educating and increasing this awareness. He/She must be knowledgeable with common health issues that surround women of all ages.

    Specific responsibilities include:

    1) Planning and execution of at least one event aimed at women's health education and fitness advocacy.

    2) Analyze survey responses for the planning of a future fitness program.

    3) Attend all executive board meetings and at least three AMSA events

    4) Assist other project directors when requested

    5) When called upon, represent the organization externally.


    One of the missions of AMSA at Ross is to provide clinical experience to members early in their medical education. It is the responsibility of the clinical coordinators to bring these opportunities to the Ross community through setting up events such as suture clinics, community screenings, medical skills workshops, and physician shadowing programs. The clinical coordinators will sit on the executive board and will communicate with professors and practicing physicians to schedule such events. They must have strong communication and organizational skills and must be willing to travel to local clinics and towns.

    Specific responsibilities include:

    1) Setting up suture clinics by working with instructors and the department of anatomy for scheduled use of the lab.

    2) Obtaining clinic visits for shadowing of practicing physicians.

    3) Set up workshops and seminars for clinical skills

    4) Attend all executive board meetings and three AMSA events.

    5) When called upon, represent the organization externally.


    The Director of Information Technology needs to be proficient in computer skills. He/She must have basic knowledge in editing documents and putting together reports or other documents as needed. The IT director will work closely with project directors to put together individual project reports for the organization web site. He/She needs to have knowledge and experience in email handling, Microsoft word, excel and basic publishing software.

    Specific responsibilities include:

    1) Full responsibility on the maintenance of the AMSA web site

    2) Update and maintain membership roster and email distribution list

    3) Work with treasurer and secretary during recruitment in organizing new member applications

    4) Maintenance of the AMSA email account

    5) Work with the president in preparation of letters of recommendation

    6) Administer voting procedures for elections

    7) When called upon, represent the organization externally


    Publicity and proper documentation of AMSA's activities rely deeply on digital documentation and therefore require the photographer be knowledgeable and proficient in working with digital cameras and basic photo editing.

    Specific Responsibilities Include:

    1) Presence at each AMSA event or coordination.

    2) Efficient photographic documentation of AMSA's events.

    3) Inclusion of as many members and directors as possible.

    4) Accurate photographic portrayal or reflection of event happenings.

    5) When called upon, represent the organization externally.
